Matcha is Japanese fine green tea powder from green tea leaves that are shade-grown. It has a green color, a mildly sweet and rich flavor with a subtle grassy and vanilla note. This powder is also rich in antioxidants and can improve your mood and energy level.

We pretty much love everything with matcha in it, whether it’s a beverage or dessert. This iced matcha latte is one of our favorite green tea drinks and we make it every week. It’s so refreshing and satisfying! We also like this matcha banana smoothie a lot by the way.

Ingredients for Iced Matcha Latte

You will need matcha, milk, honey (or maple syrup) and ice to make this tasty drink.

There are different matcha grades and the most commonly seen ones outside of Japan are culinary grade and ceremonial grade. Even within the same grade, there are also different levels of quality.

In general, more expensive matcha will have a more vibrant green color, more sweetness and richness, and less bitterness. For this matcha latte, I recommend using ceremonial grade matcha but there’s no need to use the most expensive one.

For milk, you can use regular dairy milk or nut milk. I personally don’t recommend using coconut milk. I once tried making this matcha latte with coconut milk and the taste was just weird. The two flavors didn’t blend very well with each other.

How to Make Iced Matcha Latte Using a Blender

This Iced Matcha Latte is a tasty drink that can be made in your blender. It's slightly sweet, rich with a grassy note and lots of health benefits.

The usual way to prepare a matcha green tea drink often starts with sifting matcha powder into a bowl, then using chasen (Japanese bamboo whisk) to mix it with a small amount of water. This action helps create a frothy beverage and release the aromas of matcha powder.

Using a blender to make iced matcha latte still allows you to have a thin foamy layer on top while making sure all ingredients incorporate nicely. There’s also no need to sift the powder. Besides, this method is super quick and cleaning up is a breeze, especially if you have a blender with a self-cleaning function such as a Vitamix.

All you need to do is to add all ingredients (except ice) into your blender and blend for a few seconds. Then pour the drink into serving glasses with ice. You can also dust the top with some matcha powder if you want. Super quick and easy :)! If you want to make this latte even more fun, add some homemade boba tapioca pearls.
